Volunteer Opportunities

The Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services seeks volunteer organizations and individuals to provide youth programming on Friday and Saturday evenings in the following areas:
Mentors
Work with the youth by guiding them through their struggles with growing up, while learning to make responsible choices. Offer friendship and support with day-to-day issues, as well as assist youth with planning for the future.
Gang Intervention Counselors
Assist with academic performance; discourage delinquent behavior and gang participation, as well as creating positive peer groups.
Music Teacher/Keyboard Player
Coach youth to learn and play the electric keyboard. The Music Teacher will link youth's passion for music by connecting poetry and self-discovery in the sessions.
Arts and Craft Specialist
Work with the youth by coordinating and teaching arts and crafts projects to inspire and engage youth in self-discovery.
Holiday Event Coordinators
Plan major holiday events for the youth, such as Christmas, Easter, Black History month, etc.
Chess Educators
We are not looking for chess masters - rather, caring individuals who are committed to helping youth succeed. The goal of the chess program is to improve concentration and to teach important life skills; such as problem-solving and decision making.
Trained Weekend Coaches
Assist with weekend gym activities. The full court gym has a variety of sports equipment. The Weekend Coaches will be responsible for creating and implementing recreational activities, including but not limited to basketball, soccer, kickball, jump rope, volleyball, as well as guiding youth through team building games.
If you're interested in any of the volunteer opportunities above for the Youth Services Center, please download the application below and fax to (202) 576-9078.
