Norman (Kamau Sigidi) Nixon Sr. 
Youth Leadership & Development Institute

Norman Nixon Sr. is a native Washingtonian. A graduate of Francis Cardozo High School in Washington, DC, he attended the University of the District of Columbia.

Norman is a 19-year employee of the DC Department of Employment Services, Office of Youth Programs. He is a member of Union Temple Baptist Church, where he serves as a Deacon and as a member of the security ministry. He is a political and civic activist in the District of Columbia. In 1981, at the age of 18 he was elected as a delegate to the DC Statehood Constitutional Convention making him the youngest person to hold an elective office in the history of the District. He is a member of the DC NAACP, Prince Hall Masons and the Hillcrest Civic Association. Nixon has served as president of the DC Young Democrats and Junior Citizen Corps. He has also hosted radio programs on radio stations WOL, WPFW and WUST.

Norman’s hobbies and interests include: reading, music and sports. He is married to Katherine Asya Afi Nixon and has two children, Norman Jr., age 8 and Khadijah, age 5.
